Wellness Care: Because prevention is the best medicine

One of the keys to your pet’s health is heading off medical issues or illnesses before they occur. The best way to do that is with proper wellness care, which alerts you and your veterinarian to any conditions that may be develop down the road, and helps you prevent them before they cause a problem.

At West Gate Veterinary Hospital, we make annual wellness exams an essential part of our regimen to keep your pet happy and healthy. It’s especially important for us to keep you informed at all times about all aspects of your pet’s health. You can count on our veterinarians and staff for clear communication in which they answer all your questions in a friendly, compassionate manner.

Pediatric

A pet that is well immunized early in life is able to develop a strong immune system to stay healthy and happy for many years.  Pediatric patients are also susceptible to intestinal parasites, so parasite screenings and preventative deworming are performed based on the needs of each patient.  Puppies and kittens will receive a first free dose of monthly parasite preventative to get them off to a healthy start in life.

Geriatric

Since pets age at a much faster rate than people, they are considered seniors by the age of seven.  Older pets can be prone for many of the same ailments that people get as they age, including heart disease, kidney disease, arthritis, vision problems, and even cancer.  If detected early, many problems can be managed and controlled so the pet can continue to live a quality life.  Pets over the age of twelve are considered geriatric and may need extra attention so we recommend a visit to the veterinary office every 6 months for these special pets.
